‘A reclamation’: The Simpsons gives Apu a new voice as actor Sunil Malhotra replaces Hank Azaria

The Simpsons has introduced a new voice for the character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, played by American actor Sunil Malhotra. This update follows nearly a decade of silence for the character after Hank Azaria officially exited the role in 2020. Azaria's departure occurred following criticism regarding the character's stereotypical and racist portrayal. Malhotra, who moved from India to the US as a child, described his first appearance on the animated TV show as a homecoming for Apu.
