Renowned Swedish-American conductor Herbert Blomstedt has died at age 99. His extraordinary career spanned seven decades, during which he led the San Francisco Symphony from 1985 to 1995 and worked with the Leipzig Gewandhaus. Born in Massachusetts to Swedish parents, he studied under Leonard Bernstein, Igor Markevitch, and Jean Morel. Blomstedt remained active in touring and performing into his late 90s, with his final concert taking place earlier this year when he was 98 years old.
