One dead and more than 30 missing after ferry sinks off Vanuatu coast in rough seas

One person has died and over 30 individuals remain missing after the MV Matui ferry sank off the Vanuatu coast. The vessel departed Santo for Ambae island on Friday with more than 40 passengers and crew amidst rough seas. The Prime Minister’s office stated the tragedy resulted from strong winds and the failure to heed marine warnings. Search and rescue efforts continue as the government expresses solidarity with the families of those missing in the disaster.
