Sunderland star Granit Xhaka axed from squad after fake jab scandal

Sunderland and Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka has been withdrawn from the national squad after admitting he obtained a fake Covid-19 vaccination certificate in 2022. Xhaka apologised for the mistake and will miss four Nations League matches. He is under investigation by the prosecutor's office in Lucerne, where he faces questioning to determine if criminal proceedings will be initiated. The probe relates to a series of false certificates issued by a Swiss doctor during the pandemic.
