Sycamore Gap stump photos show ring of shoots three years after felling

Three years after the illegal felling of the Sycamore Gap tree in September 2023, the National Trust has shared images showing a thick ring of new shoots around the stump. The landmark, located at a UNESCO heritage site, was destroyed by Daniel Graham and Adam Carruthers, who were subsequently jailed. This new growth is viewed as encouraging, while a book launch marks the anniversary, framing the tree as a symbol of grief, hope and action.
